Combo post! Well, Saturday was the first real ‘free’ day… I pretty much just went shopping. I got dropped off at MeriKim’s host family's apt, and we went out to the subway. MeriKim’s host family sister is Sunny, and her mom just tells her to call herself ‘Sunny’s Mom.’ So, Sunny, Sunny’s mom, Sunny’s cousin and Sunny’s aunt, MeriKim and I all went out to go shopping. Note, I was the only guy. :P But, it wasn’t too bad…
First place we went was Dongdaemungu. They had an accessory market thing… Kind of like, a bunch of ‘craft’ type accessories. Wasn’t really interested. Highlight of trip… Sunny’s cousin (probably 9 or 10) was introduced to me. She looks at me, and then just says, ‘ahjushi.’ -___- [Means: 'mister,' but has a kind of 'hey old man' contextual tone.] Later, MeriKim was joking about something, then said something like, ‘no, Daniel’s a good boy…’ Then she puts her chin up and seriously says, ‘I cannot believe.’ Haha… Kids…
That guard was passssssssssed out. :P
Sunny’s emo and cousin had to go, so the rest of us went to eat lunch...
Don't they look alike??? MeriKim said she didn't see the resemblance. :S They look just like each other!
That restaurant was tiny, packed and full of business... One cook! Amazing. The food was awesome.
There was another one right next door... Same kinda thing.
After, we went to Doota!, this enormous clothing store. It was super-trendy. It was also where I bought a suit.
Of like, 14 floors of women's clothes, there was actually a floor for men's clothes, too. :P This little 'shoppe' kind of thing was pretty small, but had exactly what I wanted. Sunny's mom told the lady I wanted a suit. She asked what kind, and I pointed at one of the ones on display... She flipped through a couple, then handed me a jacket... It fit on the first try! Like... Fit-fit. Like, I was like, 'dag.....' b/c it looked so good. Then we picked out a shirt, pants and a tie... Same thing. They all fit on the first try.
Now, all I need is a haircut.
Through some chatting, the lady threw in a tie, for free... Just so happened to be 'Daniel' brand. :P
Me and my new suit, and MeriKim and her new 'Coach' purse she got at the market... My suit came out to $170... Talk about a good deal! The lady hooked me up... MeriKim was able to haggle the price on her 'Coach' bag from $35 to $25. Nottttt bad. Koreans seem to be pretty nice to foreigners...
The interior layout of the mall is... like... different. Lots of stores open right up into each other. They still all have different music playing. Not like the markets, at all... Everything was more of what you would have expected from a Korean-clothing-store. Trendy and young and energetic.
Semi-goth-kinda-alternate-dress store for girls... Unfortunately, I never saw any girls wearing this kind of stuff. However, this wasn't the only store I saw that sold stuff like this.
...We went to an all-shoe market after. That was a crapload of shoes. Shoes everywhere. And cheap... MeriKim picked up some 'New Star' shoes (instead of New Balance)... They were pretty good rips.
Something... traditional. :P Not sure what.
Inside a Lotteria...
We just dropped in for drinks... Never did get to eat there. But, they had bulgolgi burgers!
We got back, and CK was waiting for me at MeriKim’s apt. We just went home, ate dinner and I played some Wii with Jong-Hyun. Wrote some, chatted and went to sleep…
Dinner! Restaurants are great, but sometimes you just want home-cooked Korean food.
Ju Eun decided to draw me. :P Jong Hyun would later add facial hair and an earring.
Yookajjang!
The view out of my window... Can be kinda noisy sometimes, but the view is pretty nice. I should have taken a pic later at night. :P
The next Sunday was a bit chaotic. I went to bed thinking I’d get left at home like last Sunday, then attend the English worship at Dongan, then meet up with the group later at another church at 7…
Well, first, CK told me we were going to leave for church at 10. I didn’t know ‘we’ included me, b/c that was about the time they left last Sunday… 10 rolls around and he’s like, ‘let’s go! It’s 10!’ And my head just went for a loop. I threw on my clothes and we left… But, we weren’t staying for church at Dongan.
Well.... Ever since I introduced Milkis to Nick at the airport... He's been getting more and more addicted to it. Now Hafften is also addicted. And now Stuber is dressing like Milkis.
Ju Eun is hard to get a straight picture of. :P I wished I got a picture of her little stare she does.
We went to Saegil Church… They’re apparently a pretty liberal church. They don’t have a pastor, per se… And they also have their own version of the Apostle’s Creed. Still, the service felt a lot like the others. Pretty traditional still, but with some twists.
Pastor Park got introduced, and then he did his presentation on KAMC, and then we introduced ourselves. We ate lunch with them after…
And then we had free time until dinner. Pastor Park went to go relax somewhere, and two guys took us out to explore Insadong. One of them was named Bong-min, the other Jay. We got to Insadong and took a few pics…
Insadong is kinda tourist-y. If you couldn't tell by the shops, you could tell by all the people with expensive DSLRs and enormous telephoto lenses being used improperly. :P
We dropped by a tea house... Jay was super-nice and treated us (the tea was not cheap!).
Mine was Yuja Cha. It was gooooooood.
After, Jay went with the girls to go shop…
…And the boys went with Bong-min to go hang out in an air-conditioned shop. :P We just sat, chilled and got some makkoli. It was great. Bong-min ended up getting the bill, too! We wanted to take him out later, but never got the chance. :P
The makkoli was wayyyyyyy better than what I had in the States.
It was dinner time soon after, and we left for Seoul Station. We walked around a bit, looking for an air conditioned place to just sit, but didn’t have much luck.
They have a full mall...
Performing area...
Chevy display?
Then, it was dinner time. On the top floor of Seoul Station, they have some ritzy places to eat… And we went to ‘T,’ a Chinese buffet…
The people providing us with dinner was Dr. Woo-Ick Jang and his wife, Jungsun Jun. They heard about Pastor Park’s ministry in MN and were touched and wanted to do something for it. Dr. Jang is apparently super-busy, and Pastor Park was later explaining to us that it was a miracle that we even got to meet for dinner. They both were really sweet and very nice to us… They wanted us to drop all formalities, just relax and, of course, eat a ton. They had both studied our introductions so they could know a bit about us before meeting. It was a really nice dinner… Awesome food aside, it was just a really good time.
Unlike in Daegu, I ate all my food this time... And it was delicious. :)
Super-nice people...
The group split up after, and MeriKim, David, Pastor Park and I headed off towards Dongan church on the subway. David got off somewhere and went and did something. :P But, the rest of us got a ride home from CK. Was a good day…
